| | | The undisputed kings of Thrash/Mathrock return with easily their best album to date. Though the formula is much the same (very heady time signatures slithering around in the listener’s cortex like a bucket of eels, tuned-down guitars daring one to hold on for dear life whilst they dangle you over a precipice, and lyrical shouts commanding that everyone should pay undivided attention OR ELSE), the tempos are advanced, as if the former Meshuggah are now O.D.-ing on musical steroids. The excellent Tomas Haake returns to the drum-stool after a one album break, whilst offering up the blood red lyrics to second guitarist Marten Hagstrom’s album concept (who composed roughly half of the music accordingly). This band has been around forever and a day, so they have absolutely nothing to prove; With the greatest of ease they naturally make NEW music with extremely perplexing rhythm schemes and ,in doing so, put their former heroes (King Crimson, Metallica, U.K. etc.) out to pasture
