This twofer offers both excellent albums from a Quebequoise group with family ties to Conventum, Les Granules and Miriodor, all of whom are known for their virtuosity and able mix of 'inside' humor. Here joined by Chris Cutler on drums, the outcome is an energetic mix of complex avant-rock and adventurous, melodic works which, along with those of Wondeurbrass, Justine, and Jean Derome , exemplified the earliest Art Rock endeavorings of the Victoriaville Festival's home-turf groups. The arrangements sound full and rich, often to the extent that one might forget they are listening to 4 guitarists and 1 drummer, because the midrange and bass frequencies are aptly covered by the quartet. They really sound like well-arranged, full Rock band, and give an extrodinarily creative accounting of counterpoint, polyrhthymic interplay and melodic content. Cutler's drumming is especially animated here, and the guffaws are barely off-mike as these guys crack each other up musically, but continue, undaunted, on a rather perilous tightrope of written complexity. Features notable Canadians Andre Duchesne, Rene Lussier, and Remi Leclerc, and guest: Etron Fou's bass player, Ferdinand Richard.
