Drake, Bob: What Day Is It ? Code:5338 Price:
$15.95
Quantity in Basket: none
| What Day Is It ? is the re-issue of Bob's very first solo disc (originally self-manufactured in art packaging – here tho, professionally packaged for mass market sales). It already exhibits Bob's characteristic traits: golden fingers, hi-wire vocals, eyebrow-raising country-picking, loose-but-right-in-the-pocket drums, eccentric chord inversions, and a bass-guitar sound to die for. Sitting happily with the fantasy 'Yes' Euro-progressive surface is the rather more substantial depth of a bluegrass and rooted-rock American culture; an almost unique combination and one hard to imitate (or even imagine, until you hear Bob do it). But then, Bob has always marched to the beat of a different drummer, manifestly careless of the fashion or of the easier, more superficial aspects of the music he has absorbed.

Kalahari Surfers: The 80'S / Volume 2 Code:5111 Price:
$13.95
Quantity in Basket: none
| ReR released the first installment some years back; Here then (finally) is the remainder, aptly called, Volume 2. This disc completes the digital collection of songs from "BIGGER THAN JESUS" (named after the famous, John Lennon indiscretion) and its predecessor, "SLEEP ARMED". Since these are the 2 best Surfers records, this one's a no-brainer. Already a classic.

Reportaz: Up The River (vinyl) Code:4118 Price:
$19.95

| Reportaz were originally brought to the West's attention by the subversive Polish columnist, Henryk Palzcewski. Those who remember their 3 early, classic contributions to the 2nd ReR Quarterly Magazine will know what to expect from Andrej Karpinski and company: Though their roots were in Gdansk's Punk Rock scene, you'd never know it from this, their first full-length release, because the style is far more mature (but by all means holds dear to the concept of "musical de-construction"). This is an adventurous and captivating work. Great.

Vialka: Curiosities of Popular Customs Code:5099 Price:
$9.00
Quantity in Basket: none
| In the spirit, I suppose, of Etron Fou, but even more hard-hitting, and with its own intense trademarks: baritone guitar, bass, drums and vocals, all between 2 people. This is wild, vivacious and crazy stuff, idiosyncratic to the core, and quite energetic. Covers new ground, and also follows up on a direction sadly left undocumented (mostly)É..until now. Recorded and mixed by Bob Drake, so you can imagine that the production is amazing, as well. Very strongly recommended.

Zoambo Zoet Workestrao: Every Day in Every Sense Code:5096 Price:
$11.00
Quantity in Basket: none
| From some of longest-enduring bastions of the Slovene underground: Equal parts of Post/Experimental/Punk/Prog/ and regional Folk Rock; No-one taught them anything - they were forced to learn on their own - and the unique approach is an efficacious outcome. Thusly, apart from being an absolutely wild and great disk, it's interesting to hear how musicians accomplish things when they purposefully ignore the influences of Western "entertainment". A bit like Uz Jsme Doma but not as singularly scoped. Mixed by Bob Drake. Another one strongly recommended.
